Qaanaaq is situated far north in Greenland.
Qaanaaq is the place where the eskimoes from Thule moved in May 1953 when anti-aircraft missiles where to be installed at Thule Air Base where the eskimo settlement was.
There are 678 inhabitants in Qaanaaq and a total of 143 inhabitants in four settlements around Qaanaaq. One of these settlements, Siorapaluk, is the northern-most officially inhabited place on Earth.
There are flights to Qaanaaq from Ilulissat once a week. Most passengers for Qaanaaq fly from Kangerlussuaq/Søndre Strømfjord to Ilulissat and then – after staying overnight in Ilulissat – to Qaanaaq.
